Over the last twelve months more than a hundred Essex writers, both new and more established, from every part of the county, set out to answer the question: what does Essex really mean to us?

Supported by the Arts Council, Essex County Council and Southend and Thurrock Unitary Councils, its project managers Malcolm Burgess and Heather Reyes asked Essex writers to write about what Essex meant to them personally. Just how did Essex belong to them?

‘The results are here: passionate, proud, lyrical, funny, nostalgic, sometimes complex and critical, as both new and more established writers show us Essex as it is,’ says Malcolm Burgess.

‘This is Essex beyond the tourist and reality TV stereotypes. Here is the real Essex. The Essex that truly belong to us.’

The book, Essex Belongs To Us, will be launched at the Essex Book Festival with many of its writers present.

Copies of the book are available for sale at £8.99 each (add £1.00 post and packing for each book). The e-book is available at £0.99 here

The book will also soon be available in every library across the county.

We hope you enjoy it!
